This is a plain-English summary of how we handle your information.

Who's responsible

LOAD is operated by Load Fitness Pty Ltd, based in Australia, who is the data controller for your information. If you have any questions or a privacy request, email us at help@load.fit.

Who can use LOAD

LOAD is for people aged 16 and over. You confirm your age when you create an account, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you tell us a date of birth that would make you younger than 16, the app will not accept it. If you believe someone under 16 has given us information, email help@load.fit and we will delete the account and its data.

What we collect

When you use LOAD, we collect the information you enter into the app, things like your workouts, sets and reps, body weight entries, and habits.

You can also choose to add a few optional details, your sex, date of birth, height, and a coarse location (your state or territory and postcode only, never your street address). These power optional features like age- and bodyweight-adjusted performance comparisons.

Here is the full list, so nothing is a surprise:

  • Account: your email address and a username, which are the only two things LOAD needs to give you an account. Your name, avatar and bio are optional everywhere, including during setup: leave the name blank and friends simply see your username instead. You can add, change or clear any of them later in Edit Profile.
  • Health and fitness data: the specific items are: body weight entries and any target weight, height, date of birth, sex, lifting experience, and your training log (exercises, sets, reps, loads, durations, distances, rest times, personal records, plans, streaks and habit check-ins). All of it is typed in by you, LOAD does not read Apple Health, HealthKit, Motion & Fitness or any other data from your device's sensors, and asks for no such permission.
  • Coarse location: the optional postcode and state or territory you type in Edit Profile. The app never asks for your device's location and cannot read it.
  • Things you post: feed posts, captions, comments, @mentions, photos you attach, an optional gym label on a post, workout notes, and any report you send us about someone else's content.
  • Photos: only the images you pick for your avatar, a post or a Summer Camp check-in, chosen through your phone's own photo picker. LOAD never gets access to your whole photo library.
  • Support messages: anything you write in Help & Support. If it reports a bug or an idea, our team may copy it, edited, into an issue in LOAD's private GitHub repository so we can track the fix. Only the LOAD team can see that repository.
  • Purchases: the iPhone app contains no purchases, so on iPhone there is nothing here to collect. Where LOAD does offer something paid, we record what was bought, its price and its status. We never see or store your card details: payment is handled entirely by our payment processor.
  • Device and technical data: each time you open the app while signed in, a short launch record: a random install ID the app creates for that device (not a hardware identifier), the platform you're on (iOS, Android or web), and the app version and build. It lets us see which versions are still in use so we don't break the app for anyone on an older one. If you turn on notifications, we also keep the push token for that device, so we can deliver them. Our providers log the IP address your requests arrive from, for security. We do not collect an advertising identifier, and there is none on your device we can read.
  • Usage analytics: web app only, and only if you switch them on. See Analytics below.

Some of this, your training, body weight and the optional health details above, is sensitive information. We only collect it to provide the features you choose to use, and we rely on your consent to do so. You can withdraw that consent at any time by removing the details or deleting your account.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Provide the app and show you your own training data
  • Run the social features you choose to use (see below)
  • Show you optional performance comparisons: how your lifts rank against other members, worked out from aggregated, anonymised figures
  • Suggest sensible starting weights for new exercises, using your height, sex and stated experience
  • Deliver the notifications and reminders you've opted into
  • Take payment for anything you choose to buy, and show you your purchase history
  • Fix bugs and improve how LOAD works

We never use your health or fitness data, or anything else we hold, for advertising, marketing, or use-based data mining, whether by us or by anyone else, and we never sell it. We don't build advertising profiles, and we don't repurpose data you gave us for one feature into something unrelated without asking you first.

Social features

LOAD includes optional social features. When you post to the feed, share a workout, add a photo, comment, or fill in a public-facing profile (your name, avatar and bio), that content is visible to the people you choose to share it with, your friends or, where you choose, other members. This is content you decide to share; your private training log is never shown on the feed.

Two features share more, and only when you start them. In a live workout with a buddy, you each see the other's sets as you log them, for that session. If you connect to a coach with their invite code, that coach can see your workouts, body weight and habits and assign you programs until either of you disconnects (Coach → Disconnect from coach).

You can block another member so you no longer see each other, and you can report content or a member for us to review. We remove content and act on abusive accounts, see our Terms of Service.

Comparing your lifts

If you use performance comparisons, your individual results are never shown to other members. Rankings come from aggregated, anonymised data and are only shown once a comparison group has at least 50 members, so no one can be singled out. These details are optional, without them we compare you against published strength standards instead, and you can change or remove them anytime in Edit Profile, or by deleting your account.

Analytics

The iPhone app contains no product analytics. It sends nothing about how you use it beyond the launch record described above, and it has no analytics switch because there is nothing to switch on.

In the web app, product analytics are off unless you switch them on. If you do, we collect first-party product analytics: things like which screens you visit and when you log a workout, weight or habit, plus any app error we catch. These records carry counts and actions only: never your actual workout numbers, sets, reps or body-weight values, and never free text you've written. Alongside them we record a few account details for grouping the numbers: the platform you're on, how you signed up, whether you coach or follow a plan, and the lifting experience you chose. They are linked to your account ID so we can tell one person's journey from another's, so we don't describe them as anonymous; your name and email are not sent. Like any web service, PostHog sees the IP address the records arrive from and may use it to estimate a rough location (city or country).

This is processed on our behalf by PostHog (hosted in the EU). PostHog is a product-analytics provider, not an advertising or data-broker company: your data is not sold, not shared for anyone's marketing, and not linked to advertising identifiers. We do not track you across other apps or websites, LOAD contains no advertising or attribution SDK, which is why iOS never shows you a tracking permission prompt.

In the web app, the switch is at Settings → Privacy → Product analytics, and it starts off. Nothing is collected until you turn it on, and turning it back off stops collection immediately and withdraws your consent. Nothing else in the app changes either way, no feature, free or paid, depends on it.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal information. We don't share it with third parties for their own marketing. We don't use your health, fitness or training data for advertising or data mining. We don't require you to turn on notifications, location or tracking to use any part of the app.

Who processes your data

We use a small number of trusted providers to run LOAD. Each one processes data only on our instructions, and each is bound by a written agreement requiring them to protect your data to the same standard this policy promises and to the standard the law requires. We don't let any of them use your data for their own purposes.

  • Supabase: hosting, database, authentication and file storage. Holds your account and everything you log.
  • PowerSync: keeps your device's offline copy in step with the database, so LOAD works without signal.
  • PostHog (EU), product analytics in the web app, as described above. Switched off entirely when you turn analytics off. The iPhone app sends it nothing.
  • GitHub: hosts LOAD's private code repository. A support message our team turns into a bug or idea report is stored there; nothing else about you is.
  • Stripe: our payment processor, where LOAD offers something paid. It receives no data from the iPhone app, which contains no purchases. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us; Stripe is its own controller for the payment itself.
  • Apple: the Apple Push Notification service delivers notifications to your iPhone, if you've turned them on. Apple receives the push token and the message we send.
  • Google: only if you tap play on an exercise demo video, which loads a YouTube player (in YouTube's no-cookie mode). Google then sees the request and the IP address it came from. Nothing about your account, training or health data is sent. Video only loads when you tap play, never on its own.

Some of these providers may process data outside Australia; where they do, we rely on their contractual and legal safeguards. We'll keep this list current as LOAD grows.

Storage and security

Your data is stored on servers operated by our hosting providers, and a copy of your own data is kept on your device so the app works offline. We take reasonable steps to protect it, but no online service can promise perfect security.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you stop using LOAD without deleting your account, we keep it until you ask us to remove it.

When you delete your account, your personal data, training log, weight history, habits, posts, photos, comments, profile, optional health details, push tokens and launch records, is deleted, and the local copy on your device is wiped. We may retain minimal records where the law requires it (for example, a record of a payment for tax purposes). Anonymised, aggregated figures that can't identify you may be kept. Analytics records already collected, and any support message copied into a GitHub issue, are deleted on request, email us.

Your choices

You are in control of all of it:

  • Give or withdraw analytics consent: in the web app, Settings → Privacy → Product analytics. It starts off; you can switch it on or back off at any time. The iPhone app has no analytics to consent to.
  • Remove optional details: clear your sex, date of birth, height or location in Edit Profile. The comparison features simply fall back to published standards.
  • Turn off notifications: Settings → Push & alerts, or in iOS Settings. Your push token is removed.
  • Delete your account: Settings → Delete Account, from inside the app.
  • Access, correction or deletion: ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it, by emailing help@load.fit. We'll respond within 30 days.

Keeping your own records

LOAD is under active development, and features change. Please don't rely on LOAD as your only record of your training.

Changes

If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here.
